A Letter Turned Short Story To Our Dachshund

Dear Corey, (The Family Dachshund)

Although I know I verbally communicate with you all the time and will continue to do so, I thought I would try to put it all down on paper.   I talk to YOU  basically because you give me that tilted head look of yours, you listen and just let me talk.  Therefore, you have heard most of these things before, but everyone knows I am much better at written communication.  So, the first thing I want to make clear to you is that you are a Dachshund.  It’s the  “breed” of Dog you are, complicated, I know.

The first thing I really need to get off my chest is this; when we agreed to get a puppy, I personally did not think about adopting a Dachshund.  Okay, okay….that is not true.  Honestly, Momma didn’t really want a Dachshund.  I realize that sounds awful!  However, little one, keep in mind, Momma loves you very much.  You see, your brothers wanted a puppy and when Daddy finally said it was fine,  Momma sort of already had an idea of what breed I wanted

  1. I loved this open letter to Corey! It reminded me so much of our dog, Maggie. I didn’t set out to become a Boston Terrier Mom either but it happened, just like you! Isn’t it something to receive unconditonal love? Pets excel at this particular emotion. They don’t care if we’re having a bad hair day or if we have gained a few pounds. They love us for who we are on the inside. Corey sounds like a real special boy. You are very lucky that you found each other. Thank you for this beautiful piece!

    1. Thank you so much, Susan, for the nice words. So glad you enjoyed it! We did not have a family dog growing up so I really didn’t realize how they truly become a part of the family! Corey truly does love unconditionally and he has true facial expressions, I often find myself wondering what is going through his little mind. And it sounds like you know what I am saying because of your Maggie! Love the name.
